You may have heard that the Baltimore City School System is facing a huge budget deficit. This financial situation impacts all schools including charter schools. Roots and Branches is facing a reduction to our funding that will certainly affect how we program for our children.
The board discussed the implication of these cuts on our staff at last night’s board meeting. We invite feedback from our families. Please look for a survey to come home on Monday of next week. We will hold a town hall meeting on Thursday at 5:00 (before the trip to the Walters Art Gallery) to give our community the opportunity to voice their opinions about where the cuts should take place.
In addition to carefully considering how to adjust our spending, families can also join with the Baltimore Education Coalition (BEC) in demanding that Governor Hogan and Mayor Pugh work together to release $130,000,000 to fund the budget shortfall facing Baltimore City Schools.
There will be a press rally and a march on Saturday, March 4th at 10:00 at Rash Field in the Inner Harbor. You are encouraged to make the point to the Governor that Baltimore’s kids are all Maryland kids!
